Dr Brenda Mungai

Dr Brenda Mungai is a global health expert with over 19 years of experience in TB and lung health, HIV, health systems strengthening, and health policy.

An alumna of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), she holds an MSc in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases and PhD in Global Health. An "IMPALA-let", her multidisciplinary PhD study involved clinical research, operational modelling and health policy analysis, working in a multi-partner research consortium (IMPALA) with LSTM, AFIDEP and other partners.

Brenda has a proven track record in designing, implementing and evaluating TB health programmes, including deployment of innovative technologies such as AI-powered digital X-rays. She served as a TB expert on the Global Fund Technical Review Panel (2019-2024) and is currently working as a Global Health Consultant with extensive experience working in high TB burden countries accross Africa. Her expertise extends to health research, startegic planning, grant development, investment plans and budgets.

Brenda has collaborated with various stakeholders including Ministries of Health, national, regional and global health organisations, funding agencies, academic institutions, technical partners, project implementers and affected communities. She is a self-motivated team player with strong leadership and analytical skills making her a valuable addition to the LIGHT Consortium.
