LIGHT aims to strengthen the capacity of individuals, institutions and multiple stakeholders in LIGHT countries to generate, adapt, translate and utilise evidence, as well as supporting effective management of research.

This is achieved through organising, facilitating and taking part in numerous capacity strengthening inititaives, including acess to external personal and professional development and training opportunities. Details of these initiatives and learning tools are available under "Learning" and "Resources" sections.

Some key capacity-strengthening initiatives include:

  • Evidence-Informed Decision Making (EIDM) Training: This training series, led by AFIDEP, is tailored for key stakeholders and decision-makers in LIGHT partner countries. It equips participants with the essential skills to make informed decisions based on valid and reliable scientific evidence.

  • Research Administration and Management Programme (RAMP): Designed for administrators, managers and finance officers within and outside the LIGHT Consortium, this programme offers targeted training in effective research administration and financial management.

  • LIGHT Capacity Strengthening Week (CSW): Held every two years, CSW is a focused week of learning for LIGHT Consortium members, including early career researchers (ECRs), postdoctoral fellows, research uptake and communication teams.

  • Scientific Writing Workshops: These workshops aim at enhancing participants’ academic writing and publication skills, helping researchers communicate their findings more effectively.

  • Podcast Training: For LIGHT staff interested in podcasting, this training provides tools and techniques for planning, preparing, and recording engaging podcasts.

  • LIGHT Learning Packs: As part of the learning opportunities, LIGHT develops a range of practical resources and learning packs designed to support individuals learning needs. These are open-access learning packs, freely available for download and use by anyone looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in relevant topics (e.g. LIGHT Heath Economic Learning Pack).
