Impact Case Studies
Exploring LIGHT’s Impact
The LIGHT impact case studies showcase how research can contribute to real-world change, beyond academia, when it is embedded within strong partnerships, meaningful stakeholder engagement, and a clear focus on evidence use. From influencing policy and practice to strengthening local capacity and partnerships, these case studies demonstrate how LIGHT supported more equitable, gender-responsive approaches to TB. Across LIGHT countries and in different contexts, these case studies highlight what LIGHT did to address challenges, what changed (i.e., impact), and why it matters, offering practical lessons and recommendations for researchers, policymakers, and partners working to achieve real-world impact.
Acknowledgements
The LIGHT Research Programme was made possible through the support of UK aid and the collective efforts of a wide network of partners, collaborators, and communities. We extend our sincere gratitude to the national tuberculosis programmes and ministries of health in Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, and Uganda for their leadership, engagement, and commitment to strengthening equitable TB responses. We are deeply grateful to the Consortium's researchers, research uptake managers, communications specialists, programme managers, administrators, and finance officers whose expertise and dedication have driven this work. Above all, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of TB-affected individuals, survivors, caregivers, community members and healthcare workers who generously shared their time, experiences, and insights, shaping the evidence and ensuring that this programme remained grounded in lived realities. We also recognise the engagement of parliamentarians and media partners, through which the programme strengthened awareness and capacity to support more informed prioritisation of TB, deepen understanding of gender-responsive approaches, and reinforce accountability in translating evidence into action. Together, these partnerships have been central to advancing gender-responsive, person-centred approaches to TB prevention and care.
