Benjamin Azariah Mosiwa is a Medical Doctor, graduated from the University of Malawi in 2015, and holds a MSc Global Health Policy from the University of Edinburgh. He draws on eight years experience in clinical medicine, project management as well as health systems and policy research.
Prior to joining AFIDEP, Azariah worked as a Research Fellow with the Kamuzu-University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) under the Blantyre HIV Prevention Strategy, where he was responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of various health systems and policy research projects- focusing on HIV and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Prior to his work at KUHeS, Azariah worked as Health Policy Senior Program Associate, and later as a Director of Programmes for the Facilitators of Community Transformation (FACT), where he led the designing, implementation and evaluation of various TB and HIV projects funded by USAID, the Global Fund and EGPAF. Before transitioning to research and project management, Azariah worked as Medical Doctor under the Malawi Ministry of Health as well as with Mwaiwathu Private Hospital.
Throughout the years, Azariah also worked as a consultant with various reputable organizations. His work included conducting a baseline assessment for the integration of HIV and SRH services for Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Mangochi, contracted by the World Education Inc. and a policy and institutional capacity analysis for the management of Multi-Drug Resistant TB in Malawian prisons, which was funded by the Southern Africa Litigation Center. In his work as a consultant, Azariah has produced quality work with notable policy impact, such as informing the TB in Prison Policy reforms to allow proper management of DR-TB in Malawian Prisons.
At AFIDEP, Azariah is working under the LIGHT Consortium as a Research and Policy Associate, and he brings about rich knowledge and experience in TB research and programming, which includes effective policy and stakeholder engagement.
